That specific moment…

Posted on October 21, 2016November 3, 2016 by heather

In a Facebook group for worldschooling families, the question was asked: “What was the specific moment that made each and every one of you say, I’m going to travel the world with my family?” I started to formulate a post in reply, but my answer got long and I decided it would be better to Read More

Houseless and happy

Posted on April 2, 2013July 6, 2016 by heather

We are “homeless” right now, actually between houses. We’re downsizing – or rightsizing as I prefer to think of it – and are fortunate to have sold quickly,  but before we could get into our new place. While most all our stuff is in storage and we only have a small portion of our belongings Read More

Right-Sizing

Posted on January 3, 2013November 3, 2016 by heather

Wondering what right-sizing means? In short, to right-size (also sometimes written as all one word, rightsize)  is to focus on converting something to the optimum size. I first learned the term at work, in the context of saving energy. For instance, for maximum energy efficiency you should right-size your pots to the burners on your stove Read More

Leaving the workforce (and the aftermath)

Posted on April 24, 2012November 3, 2016 by heather

Leaving my job was the easy part. After thinking about it for a long time, putting the plan into action was relatively uncomplicated. As always, I put lots of thought and effort into making things as smooth as possible for the people around me. I made how-to guides for all the tasks only I knew Read More

That mom

I ran across a spontaneous blog carnival from last year and have been so inspired by the posts that I just had to write about it, because I want to be That Mom, too. I want to spend my every waking moment with our kid, living life. I want to experience all the crazy things Read More

Earnings vs. income

Posted on January 30, 2011July 6, 2016 by heather

Lifestyle seems to grow to accommodate the income available. For most people that means that as your paycheck goes up, what you expect to be able to buy or do keeps pace as well, resulting in a new norm that closely matches current earning capability. Newly middle class people choose middle class cars, houses and Read More

Kiddo has put his game making on the back burner t Kiddo has put his game making on the back burner the last couple of weeks because he's been super inspired with ideas for a TABS movie. He's being drawing out panels using just his finger on the trackpad and writing lots of dialogue. It's quite different from his usual pixel art and I just love the style he chose to use. He's so consistent with it and I feel like he's got a good eye for cartoon-styled art and what to emphasize in each pane. 🎨

Later when we went out again it (or another one just like it) found me again a few blocks away and kept landing on my fingers and even tried to stick it's proboscis under my nails, which was very tickely. They're so beautiful!!! #alwayslearning

The group consisted of a guitarist, electric violin/vocalist, percussion/vocalist, bass, and dancer. The dancer wore five different outfits to suit different song styles/moods. At the end they opened it up for audience participation and people were dancing in the aisles. We couldn't help but compare it to the flamenco performance we saw in Spain.💃 #weareworldschoolers

We took the colectivo yesterday to visit Cenote Ja We took the colectivo yesterday to visit Cenote Jardín del Eden! It's bigger and deeper than some of the other nearby cenotes, and set 1km back from the road. It was much less crowded than Cenote Azul right next door, and it seemed many people were there primarily to jump. You can jump or dive from any part of the cliff or platform between the ropes, or even the tree above! We saw a lot of fancy moves, but it was enough for me just to jump it. Just watch out for divers below! (There are underwater caves and things to explore.) Kiddo was not remotely interested in jumping but he did enjoy the swimming and fish. 🐟🌅 #cenoteeden #cenotejardíndeledén

We're always excited to try new kinds of kombucha! We're always excited to try new kinds of kombucha! This one from La Bruja Islena is "butterfly lavender lemongrass" and is a lovely purple-ish color that looks more pink outside in the sun. I love that this brand has refill stations in many local stores and even does home deliveries! They are a bit expensive, but every flavor we've tried so far has been so good! 🦋🦋🦋
