Food delivery services in Playa del Carmen

If you’re just not up to trekking to a restaurant after a long day of travel or are too tired to fire up the stove after a day in the sun, you may want to take advantage of several food delivery services serving Playa del Carmen!

In addition to the restaurants that offer delivery directly, there are three different local vendors that can be used for delivery of restaurant meals:

Playa Now

Playa NowPlaya Now has a large range of restaurant/menus on their website, arranged by name. To order, you will Skype with a person who will place a call to the restaurant on your behalf. They will handle any back and forth questions and then give you a price and time estimate. It’s particularly great for those that don’t have enough Spanish to feel comfortable calling somewhere to order. In our experience the staff have always been pleasant and efficient.

Pros:

  • Wide range of restaurants/menus (currently 54 options)
  • Orders placed via Skype, on web or mobile device
  • English speaking staff
  • Website lets you search for restaurants by type of food (including vegan and vegetarian, listed separately)
  • Clearly marks restaurants as Open/Closed

Cons:

  • Menus aren’t always up to date
  • Can’t pay online, requires cash on delivery*
  • Requires Skype

Hours: 9am – 12am

*We’ve heard that a new website is in progress, with a shopping cart and online payment process. Can’t wait!

DeliToGo

Deli to goWe love that DeliToGo allows us to both order and pay online, which is great when you don’t want to talk to someone, or don’t have enough cash on hand to pay for your meal.  Their list of restaurants is arranged to show open places first.  We have had some issues with their site not wanting to take our credit cards (we’ve had the best luck using PayPal to pay instead), and one time where what we ordered turned out not to be available and a Spanish-speaking representative called us to clarify, but overall we’ve had many positive experiences with them.

Pros:

  • Wide range of restaurants (currently 46 options)
  • Ordering is all done online
  • Takes online payment, or cash on delivery
  • Remembers past orders
  • Website lets you search for restaurants by food type (including vegan and vegetarian)
  • Menus are updated often
  • Easily shows which restaurants are Open / Closed
  • You can add notes for the chef
  • Also has a mobile app

Cons:

  • Not all credit cards will work with their online payment system
  • Can’t include the tip with your online payment, still need to have cash
  • If there is a problem with your order, a Spanish speaking representative will call

Playita Express

Playita ExpressPlayita Express does not have many menus online, because they’re not limited to only certain restaurants. They will deliver meals from anywhere and items from other places like OXXO. You contact them in advance via Skype or WhatsApp to arrange the order and they will pick it up and deliver it to you.

Pros

  • Delivers items other than food, like coffee from Ah Cacao, OXXO, DAC, etc.
  • Can be contacted via Skype or WhatsApp
  • Website lets you search for restaurants by food type (including vegan and vegetarian)
  • Will deliver fast food, like Subway, McDonalds, Burger King, etc.

Cons

  • Only shows online menus for a few restaurants
  • Shows different things on their English site vs. Spanish site
  • Requires you to get in touch directly

LoQSea – Supermarket Delivery

loQsea Supermarket DeliveryOne other delivery service that’s worth a mention is LoQSea . Although they don’t deliver restaurant meals, they do deliver food and other supermarket items, garrafones (20L jugs) of water, and on Thursdays will even pick up things from Costco in Cancun!  Orders are placed online and payment is via PayPal (accepts all major credit cards). A personal shopper will buy the items and deliver them to you during a one-hour delivery window of your choice. They are invaluable if you can’t get out of the house for some reason or want to get your household setup quickly after you arrive. They even have special “Welcome Kit” packages

  1. Chez Playa says:

Every week in Playa Del Carmen there is a phenomenon at Chez Celine Restaurant. It is full of people, especially for breakfast. Why is this so? We set out to find out what makes this restaurant so popular. ATMOSPHERE. You will feel as if you were in a nice street café in Paris with seating outside on the shaded patio or in the air-conditioned interior.
