Today we met up with several people from the local homeschooling/unschooling group, plus some other worldschooling families for another fun day at the beach with friends!
This time we went to Playa Xcalacoco, a public beach located near the Azul Fives hotel on the northern end of Playa del Carmen. There is a lifeguard stand and a shower near the entrance, but not much else in the way of amenities. The reef and rocks made for a nice, calm swimming area that day. Our son was able to see fish near the shore, and he and a friend found lots of shell and coral fragments, even a shark’s tooth! There is also a pier that one can walk on or swim under.
The beach is about 15-20 minutes away from the central part of Playa del Carmen by car and hard to reach using public transportation, so we were thankful to catch a ride with friends. We were told that we could have gotten a taxi from Centro to there for about 70 pesos. There is a taxi stand at the Azul Fives entrance that would make it easy to catch a ride back as well.
