Yesterday kiddo and I visited Cenote Azul. It has crystal clear water, lots of different kind of fish of all sizes – including many that nibble and tickle your skin!, a jumping platform, some small caves, and a very relaxed and fun vibe. The water is randomly deep, then very shallow, with lots of crevices and holes for the fish to hide in. Some rocks are quite rough, others are covered in algae and very slippery. It was quite different from the huge, deep, dark Cenote Ik-Kil that we went to last week.
No sunscreen is allowed at the cenote so I am a bit pink today, but not bad at all. Kiddo is even less so because he was face down snorkeling nearly the whole time!
We took a colectivo to get there and back, a kind of van-based shuttle service where you can get on/off anywhere along the route and pay for how far you’ve traveled. They’re so informal, yet verydependable and safe.
I didn’t get many great pics or video because we don’t have a waterproof camera, but here are a few to show a bit of what it was like. Both new, interesting experiences for kiddo and I!
